It is believed by many that an International Thank You Day is an artificial holiday created by some clever greeting card company as a way for them to sell more cards. Such belief is mostly due to the fact that it's nearly impossible to find any information on its origin - most internet searches bring you to websites and blogs that repeat the same old thing like a mantra. Everyine is curious, makes assumptions, blames it on the people selling greeting cards, but noone realy knows.
However, it turns out there is a real living person behind the creation, and I have none other than Cat Wagman to thank for pointing me in that direction. World, meet Adrienne Sioux Koopersmith (get ready for the lady's full title) - Creator and Promoter of International Thank You Days © and Eventologist of The 21st Century ®!
Her blog is said to have more information about the subject and, apparently, the thank you days were expanded to 8 thank you days total! Naturally, I wanted to know all about it, but in a reply email from Ms. Koopersmith's assistant was told that currently she is under advisement from her attorney not to discuss any of the events she created as her and her publisher "will be releasing an EVENT-O-PEDIA ® on them since 2011 kicks off her 21st year of being 'The Eventologist'". I was assured, however, that her blog, KOOPERSMITHin, will relay more news as the book release date gets closer.

ReplyDeleteHi lovely - I'm finally catching up on your blog... so much to be thankful for!
ReplyDeleteI love how far you're looking into this. The fact that you were denied the opportunity to ask her makes it all the more interesting... kinda funny how what should be a simple idea for a grateful day has now become some kind of legal mess! I hope they thanked you for your interest in the finding the root of it though :)
