Traditional Thank You Cards VS Technology

I know some of you are rooting for the comeback of the traditional way of thanking people - via thank you cards. Others argue that the card is not even dead. Then we have folks who embrace technology, but complain that most of the latest developments are only available to those with smartphones... Hey, why argue if there's something for everyone these days?

Meet Thankuz, a sweet new thanking website that was recently brought to my attention. Thankuz fits right between a formal, traditional thank you greeting and a casual 'thanks' expressed via text messages or social networking sites, sort of bringing both worlds together. Because traditions don't always meet the modern world's needs.

I got curious about the whole thing, so I had to ask one of the creators if anyone could use it, regardless of them having a smartphone or not, and, as it turns out, Thankuz is a web app and you don't even have to sign up to use it - the Thankuz notes can be sent anonymously or via a nickname. You can use it to send thank you notes to people, places or even things, and you can add photos with your note of thanks! Each note also gets its own url, so it's easy to find and share.

So what do you think? Do you even like the idea of various thankful applications that keep being developed lately?

  3. Wow Julia! Thank you so much for taking the time to inform your readers about Thankuz, and for putting so much thought and effort into your review. Love the approach you took!

We’re so happy that our instant thank you note concept is being adopted and appreciated by our users. We hope to continue to improve the Site and Service even more in the future, and would love any feedback The Thank You Project readers might have. Thanks again.

  5. BRILLIANT.
I am always on board with ways that combine social networking/media ways of doing things in addition to the typical ways of doing things. I think it is so much more effective.

  13. I like the idea, but for me, there's nothing sweeter than a hand written thank you card with an update, a photo you can hold and touch...I'm kind of old fashioned about that.

  14. I love the idea of a "real" thank you card. If I am thankful enough to want to send a card, I want it to be something the person can hold and cherish. Call me old fashioned lol.

BUT, I have lots of "virtual" friends through blogging that I would love to send a thank you to when they've brightened my day and I think that would be an awesome use for the web cards.

Thank you for introducing me to this awesome site!

  16. I love the idea!! Not as a complete replacement for the 'thank you card' but as an easier way for other areas that wouldn't necessarily merit one. What a fabulous idea, I just emailed it to my office so I can send a couple tomorrow or at least start brainstorming about where I want them to go :)

  18. Love the feedback you have all provided in your comments! Thank you all so much for taking the time & effort to leave such detailed thoughts & remarks. :)

We're up to 500 users who have sent nearly 1,000 notes in only a short amount of time. I'm sure this wouldn't have been possible without the support of this community.

Especially loved the feedback re: digital vs. physical notes. That's been one of our biggest challenges to date, as it is very difficult to find a balance that everyone agrees with. We have some ideas we think will make the service even better, and more appealing to "digital" note naysayers, so please continue to send any feedback you might have as we continue to improve the site.

Thanks again Julia! Your post sent a good amount of traffic, and for that, we are grateful!
