Oh Why...

Have you noticed the songs and the music video I gave thanks for in my previous posts were all by male artists? Well, this is no coinsidence. I realize most of the time I can't listen to too much female voice in one go, whereas it's not a problem with male performers. So for a change, today I'm saying thanks for the b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l music video directed by beautiful Vashtie Kola for Solange's song "T.O.N.Y." Another one I can watch on repeat, and just like with John Legend's "Save Room" I think the "T.O.N.Y." song goes great with that motion picture.

  5. I tend to gravitate more towards male voices too. I think I like the lower tones... sometimes girl voices tend to be shrill and annoying, but I also enjoy a good female artist. It's nice to see that Solange can hold her own! It must be difficult to always be Beyonce's little sister.

  6. Love the wild black and white coat! It reminded me of our mutual blogging buddy Leah. Hope you're well & wonderful, Julia!

  8. Loved this song from the first time I heard it. Solange is very underrated. But I've always wondered what does the "Y" stand for...

Anyway, great vid with well-placed Kid Cudi and Cee-Lo cameos.

  9. Oh I'm happy some of you got first introduced to the song by me :) It's such a great work it definately needs even more love and recognition.

YJ, you have a point! :) And Solange is real good, her talent is underrated, just like Graham pointed out.

Gropius, I like the coat too!!

Graham, I so agree!! Even though Solange is a little sister, her music is more mature than Beyonce's, in my opinion. But Beyonce is just a more mass oriented kind of artist, so she gets more recognition. Solange is some sort of an "exclusive boutique" performer... If I can say that? I was wondering who'd notice the Kid Cudi and Cee-Lo cameos, btw :)

  10. girllll. we are just two alike. it's something about inflicting self pain that releases so much tension and stress. . .just between you and i, before tattoos and piercings, I did alot of scarification and I used to burn myself for fun. . .i know i'm twisted but i was a sick teenager that didn't know better! But know I have two piercings and one tattoo. . .it's not much though, but I have so many scars that it evens out the body damage. Anyways, i'm getting another tattoo in two weeks. my appointment is already booked! I'm getting a Shakespearean Quote. . .you'll see it eventually. . .you just have to stay tuned to my blog to see it! hahahaha

  11. That was seriously good. I've never given Solange attention before - not for any conscious reason, but just hasn't happened. But I fell hard for this song and video, I will definitely need to give her a minute to wow me again.

  13. So interesting...I'm more drawn to female voices. Maybe b/c I'm a singer myself. This video is awesome...I've never seen it before. Btw, one of my best friends sang back-up for Solange last year. Unfortunately, Solange is spoiled little lazy brat :(

  14. "Y" is for "why"... hmph.

I'm not impressed by that one... ha

But the song is still amazing.

  16. Also, good shout on the John Legend video. The song is good, but the video really lifts it to a completely different level for me.

(Meh! I just went to check it out again, and can't find it on YouTube or Vimeo.)

  18. ooooohhh girl!!! you reminded me of last year, when i was on the concert of Alicia Keys and Solange was the first to perform. She was gorgeous! It was a great concert and a wonderful memory! Know her songs since then - all of her songs have something, that makes me feel really good. Don't know what it is! And T.O.N.Y. reminds me of running - it was one of my running songs :)
Love your "project" and follow your blog immidiately, because i believe in what you are doing!
    You made my day hun!
