Ghost Chair. Song.

I'm so thankful I came across this song - not only is it absolutely, magically beautiful, but it happened to really fit my current mood and, by making me think, made me realize a few new things, and all sorts of realizations are always welcomed here. Plus, how can I possibly not have a soft spot for a song mentioning chairs and titled 'Ghost Chair'? And you guys know what kind of a chair it is, don't you? Louis Ghost Chair was designed by Phillippe Starck for Kartell.

So here's the song, and the video is actually a live footage, how awesome is she?

Genie in a Bottle

A while back I was doing a series of thankful posts on my favorite songs and music videos. A few days ago when Christina Aguilera's "Genie in a Bottle" came up on my iPhone I realized I forgot to post about it. I do consider it one of my very few all time favorites - whenever I hear it starting to play I listen and don't rewind, if the video comes up on TV I would never switch off. It's like I can listen to it regardless of my mood at the time. Funny fact is that when the song came out I was a lot more into the alternative music and I used to really dislike Christina, but I loved the song. And still do.

P.S. I couldn't be thankful enough for all your amazing comments and support in the past days, THANK YOU guys!

Women & Music & More Music

Since today is the International Women's Day, it's a good idea to give some thanks to a woman, right? So today my thanks go to Shannon Eileen of Happiness Is... blog. Shannon has just recently posted about a song that I happened to get hooked on from the very first sound - "Black and Gold" by Sam Sparro. She is a musician herself, so it's only natural that she would have a great taste in music. I'm feeling thankful for this maybe seemingly small thing, because it's not often that I feel such connection with both the melody and the message in a song right away, she happened to post about it at the very right time too. I was once again reminded that no happiness in the world really matters when you don't have anyone to share it with.

And speaking of heartfelt songs, I cannot not mention my super good friend Mark's new band Wooden Wires - they've just formed it about 6 weeks ago for the UK's Channel 4 competition and made it to the final 20 (out of 1500+ entries). Now it's up to the public to decide who makes it to the final 10. So if you want to make me feel even more thankful, I'd appreciate it if you could stop by to check out their music and help support a friend HERE.

I guarantee you'll feel the beauty of this song if you watch Mark's band partner Dom playing the acoustic version of one of their songs:

Flashing Lights

To me, this video is everything that is wrong with this world, in 4 minutes. Because everything starts within a human mind, and my mind is no exception. This would have to be my most favorite music + video combination too. I love the message in the song and I love the visual presentation. If you remember the two previous music videos (Save Room and T.O.N.Y.) I was thankful for, you can probably see how all three are similar. I'm thankful 'Flashing Lights' serves as a great reminder of the things I need to never forget about. Let me share one good Will Rogers quote with you while I'm at it too:
"Too many people spend money they haven't earned, to buy things they don't want, to impress people they don't like."

P.S. I'm afraid, if you don't see it the way I do and ask me what the heck I'm talking about, I wouldn't be able to explain.

Oh Why...

Have you noticed the songs and the music video I gave thanks for in my previous posts were all by male artists? Well, this is no coinsidence. I realize most of the time I can't listen to too much female voice in one go, whereas it's not a problem with male performers. So for a change, today I'm saying thanks for the b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l music video directed by beautiful Vashtie Kola for Solange's song "T.O.N.Y." Another one I can watch on repeat, and just like with John Legend's "Save Room" I think the "T.O.N.Y." song goes great with that motion picture.

Save Room

So within the series of my thankful posts on my most favorite songs and music videos I've already given thanks to Coolio and Lenny for the two of my all time favorite tracks - these have definately proven their worthiness to me by staying in the favorite category for a long long time now. Today I want to say thank you for one of my most favorite music videos ever - the video for John Legend's 'Save Room'. In this particular case, it was exactly the video that made me like the song. They go perfectly together too, I can just watch it over and over and over... Probably because it includes a lot of my favorite things and one action just 'flows' into another... I even have the actual pretty HQ video saved on my computer... Love it!

I Belong to You

Another one of just a few all time favorite songs of mine is "I Belong to You" by Lenny Kravitz. I'm thankful for it because for so many years now it's been making me feel so good. Nothing like listening to it in the ambience of the morning sun and letting it fill you with such calming inner sunshine...

Gangster's Paradise

I've decided to do a series of thankful posts on my most favorite music - both songs and music videos. Just because I love music and believe that our favorite shapes us too, which is always a good thing to be thankful for. So, one of the very few of my most favorite songs ever is "Gangster's Paradise" by Coolio (unexpected, eh?). So many years after I've heard it for the first time it still sounds fresh to me and I still experience the same emotions from listening to it. I love the message. I'd say it's put simply, but it's oh so true. Back in my more or less troubled and depressive teenagehood I always felt I could relate in a one way or another, and I love it how the song always made me think. The lyrics can be found here.

P.S. I sinserely believe one doesn't have to grow up in a ghetto to be able to relate to a rap track like this one. To me and to those who really listen, it has a much deeper meaning.

Colorful Rituals & Vivid Dreams

Speaking of movies, isn't it amazing how some of the motion picture productions just have such an impact on us? After seeing the following video yesterday, I had one of the most amazingly detailed dreams ever that night. The video features China's 60th Anniversary National Day and is incredibly beautifully shot - I really like the use of both timelapse and slow motion in one video and how creatively it's done in this particular one. And the sountrack goes just great with the picture, making it such a beautiful work altogether!
I'm thankful I came across this incredible video yesterday, and I'm thankful it caused me to see such a weirdly beautiful dream: I saw a little Indian boy dancing in slow motion by a river bank, playing with some long silk-like reddish ribbon in the haze and subtle darkness of the chilly evening...

Music

I'm thankful for music, all sorts of it. Isn't it cool that absolutely anyone can find a song that would appeal to their taste and mood? Also, I've always been amazed and fascinated by the fact that so many lifetimes since the humankind began people still come up with new melodies... I will never completely comprehend that.

She is... Beyonce

Oh can I just say thank you to Beyonce? I went to see her in concert yesterday (she's on her "I am" tour now) and oh boy, what a great performer she is! So giving, so genuine, such a charming person and she can definitely sing live. Thanks, Bey, for the great show and for such warm and positive vibe!

P.S. The above photos are taken with my iPhone, so this is the best quality I could get.

Night Out

Last night a DJ didn't necessarily save my life but he made me feel good. Thankful for the night out yesterday to the people I went with and thankful for the good music to the DJ.
