A Quick Question

I'm just curious, have it ever happened to you that you wanted to tell someone 'thank you' for something personal but felt too shy, inappropriate or awkward and never thanked them in the end?

Personally, it happened to me before. It wasn't until I started practicing small "acts" of gratitude (even if silent ones of which only I was aware) often enough that I started feeling completely comfortable in expressing my thankfulness and giving thanks out loud so openly and so often. So, I guess for some people it does take time and effort to be able to voice it. However, some don't even try. This is why the idea of the Thanksgiving holiday is such a good idea.

  1. ..to be honest - no , I never felt shy to say 'Thank you' to somebody , I actually quite like it because the other one feels appreciated and it just feels so nice isn't it !

  2. I'm a big fan of both the thank you and the thank you gift...so, I guess I'm not shy about it. HA!

  3. That's something I realy love about the Thanksgiving holiday - it's really about simply, beautifully just giving thanks and nothing else (except eating until you can't move :)). I've experienced this feeling too - glad it's not just me!

  4. I think I'm usually pretty open about saying thank you. The one exception that's happened lately in particular--if you are viewed as "kissing up" to the authorities that be when you express gratitude. Without explaining too much, there are those who consider the act of saying thanks to a BOSS as such. Sad, isn't it?

  5. Oh yes! A former boss whom I never worked directly with but has inspired me a lot. Although, in the end, I thought, what the hell? And finally thanked her through Facebook of all places. I'm glad I did coz that's when I found out she knew me and my work : )

I guess a "thank you" does go a long way :)

  6. I've also been in situations where I wanted to say thank you to someone but I wanted to do it privately for one reason or another, with a manager for instance. I didn't want it to be viewed as sucking up, etc. But sometimes if you wait for an opportunity to do it privately, that opportunity doesn't arrive and then you miss your chance. It's good to say thank you right when you want to so that you don't miss it completely! But that's also why I like holiday's because it's given me the opportunity to thank people, in public ways even, and it's not considered "sucking up." I've even had coworkers join in after.

It's interesting to think about how uncomfortable people can be to say thank you, though! At my workplace we have a way to make a certificate to thank people for things that they do and everyone is so uncomfortable to use it!

  7. I can't recall having difficulty saying thank you to someone. I say it easily. There are other things I can't easily say for some reason to certain people and I really need to say it. Could be stubbornness or too much pride. Dunno.

  8. I have practiced the art of giving thanks even when I was still a young girl. My parents taught me well. It's very fulfilling to see the effect a simple "thank you" can have on other people. They know they are appreciated and it lifts up their morale.

That's why I love your mission... positive energy all the way. Keep this up Julia!

  9. Yes, I do sometimes feel awkward giving thanks. It is probably a skill that gets better with practice. I also find it easy when it is really REALLY sincere (like when an anonymous trucker probably saved my life during a blizzard a few years ago)!

  10. I do feel awkward sometimes, but I know how nice it is to be on the receiving end of the thanks. I made a point of send a thank you card to all the moms that help with my daughter's girl scout troop. Really, who doesn't like to be thanked! And, thank you for your inspiring blog! Have a wonderful holiday!

  11. sometimes if I wait to long to say something, it never feels right! There often isn't a perfect right time! I know what you mean ~ and I think it depends on how often one gets used to saying thank you and such. :)

  12. It has happened to me several times in the past and I try my best to say thanks out loud as much as I can... I too am a bit shy.

    Happy Thanksgiving, Julia!

  15. I don't think that I have been too shy to say thank you, but I have been too shy to give a compliment. But now, not so much.

  16. Happy Thanksgiving! You are the queen of this holiday ;) I can say I have been shy in the past about expressing my gratitude to the fullest. I am not sure why that is, but I have definitely gotten better at it throughout the years ;)

  17. My greatest gratitude at this point goes to my friend. He showed me how to use building winning algorithmic trading systems. I was confused and disappointed when I lost my job during the first covid lockdown. And only cryptocurrency helped me find my place in the new economic model.
