Peaceful Mornings

As I am all in a dreamy vacation mood these last couple of days, I've been reminscing about past trips to beach side destinations... One of the things I really like and always thankful for is waking up early and soaking up the sun by the pool while most of a resort guests are still fast asleep. Such mornings are peaceful, and it totally feels like the world revolves around you...

Looking Up

I'm thankful that things seem to be looking up for me travelling wise... After a year of totally random and inexplicable obstacles that kept getting in the way each time I tried to make a trip to anywhere happen, having been able to book tickets feels like a miracle. Hope I'm not speaking too soon, ha! Anyway, I am thankful for the opportunity that seems to be real this time!

That Night

No matter how long ago it happened, and what happened or didn't happen after, I'm thankful that it was. And I actually really like it that by this photo above it's impossible to tell who, what, where and when... Ha.

Turkey, Summer 2004

Six years later I'm glad I'm still thankful for this amazing experience - my trip to Turkey in the summer of 2004. Just like with the Miami trip I mentioned earlier, this journey provided enough of unforgettable memories and little life lessons and connected me with so many amazing people, some of whom I still happily have in my life.

City Boat Trips

Even if boat trips I seem to like so very much usually allow for a more fantastic scenery and more fun activities once it's an open seas trip, I've realized city boat trips can be just as much fun. So if I can't travel to a seaside destination just yet, I'd take the best boat trip the Moscow River has to offer and be thankful for it! P.S. All above links lead to picture posts and if you love water themed photography I suggest you take a look!

Miami Reunions

Having just hosted one of our mini Miami Reunions here in Moscow two weeks ago, I was thinking how thankful I was for each such reunion, no matter how many people were able to make it to one place at one time. The Miami 2007 trip connected so many people from all over the world and even though each of us has their own busy life, it's amazing how we all share something special and stay in touch even to this day. Here's to the many more reunions!

Exploring Moscow

On our way to the SpanishFest expo at M'ARS Gallery yesterday, we discovered yet another super pretty little street here in Moscow - we liked it so much that it actually made us want to pose and take pictures like tourists would. We don't have that many little, narrower than usual, quite streets with buildings like those here, so each time we happen to come across one is a special time, and I'm thankful for each such little street. They just don't look or feel like Moscow, it's like you just fall out of reality for a moment and get to take a break from the big city noise and all that comes with it - an instant tiny travel in culture and space.

P.S. For the content that doesn't make it to the blog check out the official page for the 'Thank You' Project on Facebook. I thought it'd be a good place to share some of the very inspiring videos and quotes I come across. As of now, I post quotes on Monday (to start off the week in an inspiring way) and videos on Saturday (to set the inspiring mood for the weekend).

Something Personal

You guys seemed to like that picture I posted in my previous thankful post... Well, it was taken in Milan, in my hotel's inner yard (if you go to this post, click on the picture to enlarge it and look carefully, you'll see the sculpture!). So today I thought I'd share another one I took there, and while I'm at it, I thought I'd say thanks for my butt, as I am quite fond of it. I, of course, wouldn't post a photo of mine, so instead, please enjoy this one above! Ah, how clever of me, isn't it?..

The World Is Endless: Egypt

It just happened so that somehow Egypt's been playing a big part in my life. Back in school I loved studying about its ancient culture, enjoyed watching all the documentaries on it I could only come across and loved seeing real ancient Egyptian pieces in museums. When I traveled there for the first time in the spring of 2003 I had no idea I'd visit 3 times more in the next 5 years, but looks like it was just bound to happen - there's gotta be some wicked connection between me and Egy.

This Egyptian mood of mine was inspired by putting together the above Polyvore set for Wendy Brandes' contest, and honestly, I could write so much more on my epic love affair with Egypt, but this would have to be enough for this blog.

All I have left to say is the world is endless, the possibilities are endless and Egypt is endless to me too... Because I believe in coming back to places that your heart loves. So, today I am thankful for Egypt.

What is the place your heart fancies?

Visits

I'm having a blast with visiting friends from Europe, so I guess today I'm thankful that they are here in Moscow! Yay!

P.S. There's now a Facebook page for The 'Thank You' Project - it should prove useful for those who asked me if there was an easy way to keep track of thanks without creating a Google account. Another reason I decided to create a page is I saw other thankful pages popping up on FB and thought that effort put in updating daily for over 6 months deserved a page... ha

Sea World

I'm not that much of a water person unless we're talking hot tubs and fancy drinking water (I am very into trying new bottled varieties and yes, I do feel how the taste is different), so I can really appreciate the beauty of the sea world once it's so close to the top that one doesn't need to dive anywhere - the picture above was taken standing on a solid surface and looking down on the water before my feet.

Inner Yards

Can I just be thankful for all the cute little inner gardens out there? My blog, so I guess I can, ha. The one pictured is in Milan.

Dog Walks

Seeing a dog happily and proudly walking the streets by its owner's side is kind of rewarding. I've always appreciated the experience, especially on nice sunny days like that one in Barcelona.

P.S. The dog pictured is not mine - I just happen to do the most amuzing untouristy things when I travel.

Berries & Mascarpone

As I am supposedly attending a friend's birthday celebration tonight, and this friend always cooks the most amazing stuff for her parties, it made me think of desserts. So today I want to give 'official' thanks for the most delicious berry dessert I've ever had. I mentioned 10 Corso Como's bookstore in Milan before, but their cafe is another thing worthy of a separate post. But not today, today it's all about their raspberries and currants with mascarpone cheese cream!..

Gets Me Trippin'

I'm so very much thankful for traveling, for the ability to travel, for the idea of traveling itself... The world would be a sad place without such perfect opportunity to expereince other cultures and sub-cultures within cultures!

Back to Chairs

Well, just like I said, I coudn't promise you no more posting about chairs... And the whole Pharrell's chain thing totally reminded me of my encounter with his Perspective's chairs at the Emmanuel Perrotin Gallery in Paris. I remember I really wanted to see the chairs in person when I saw the first photos of them... And how awesome was it to find out they were right there on display when I was in town! I was definately thankful and I still am. How do you like the chairs?

The Barcelona Chair

My first personal encounter with Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona chair took place at Living lounge in Milan last spring, and ever since then I could never miss an opportunity to praise its ridiculous comfortableness once asked either about chairs or my Milanese impressions. I think that night there is exactly the time when first seeds of this approaching designer chairs obsession were planted - I find myself developing some unhealthy interest in the subject. Anyways, before I write an essay, let me get down to thanking. Thank you, dear Ludwig, for creating a perfect chair!

P.S. I'm afraid I can't promise no posting about chairs in the future... It's taking over me!..

Moments

I'm thankful for those tiny moments which, when caught on tape, make for some very attractive photos. I'm convinced that sometimes it's not about a fancy camera in your hands, but rather some luck and ability to catch this one special tiny period of time.

Local

I never really saw it myself until I saw this set of pictures - seated in a very traditional Russian setting I look especially non-Russian. A lot of times when I travel people take me for a local, and I must admit I've always considered it a good thing and loved all the funny encounters! Once in Paris a girl came up to me complimenting my shoes, which I didn't understand until I disappointed her with my lack of French language skills... In Italy I easily go for an Italian and in Spain I look fairly Spanish, within a group of British I am British too, out and about with someone from the States I seem perfectly American... And I could never get bored of this! I am thankful I can travel to places that are new yet feel so at home and 'familiar' to locals, and I am thankful I can pass for a tourist when hanging out with friends from abroad here in Moscow... Priceless!..
